The Triple Threat!

Some may call it impossible, some may say its foolish, some may say its near daring, but i will dare to do it... The triple review of three arguable classics. Yes that's right i said triple, shits about to get epic. The subject of my review are three forms of media (putting my degree to use there) that have really captured my interest in the last couple months/weeks. We have the newly released Christopher Nolan Film Inception, the music phenomena Drake's first album Thank me Later, and the hauntingly beautiful flash game Robot Unicorn Attack. Though all are very different there are surprising similarities between the three.

Inception seems to be the talk of the town as of late. It seems to have captured everyone's imagination and got every amateur film expert coming up with their own theories of the film etc etc. Now I'm not going to even describe the outline of the film because its really difficult to do the intricate story justice in a coupla sentences. Lets just say that it mixes the cliches of the best heist films (thats right films) and plot of a psychological thriller and turns out a film which is epic on the grandest of stages...which happens to be the subconscious!

Drake is the new and up and coming rapper who seems to be holding the whole weight of rap on his half Jewish shoulders. Here at the blog we've chucked a lot of references to Drake and had some fun at his expense. Now his eagerly anticipated first album has come out. What we have is a semi journey that spans from the lowly points of being famous to the pros of 'ballin outta control', and constantly throughout there are sprinkled gems of how to please yo chick.

Robot Unicorn Attack tells the story of a unicorn running and that's about it. All you do is press 'Z' and 'X', that's it. Theirs no real winning just losing. As you run the obstacles come at you faster and faster until you eventual crash. Though this sounds extremely stupid therein lies a deep beauty to the freedom of running, of what it really means to be horse creature.

Lets begin with the idea of ' doin it big'. All three of these in one way or another have done this and done it well. Inception has some of the most impressive stunts, sets and CGI you are gonna see this year. Two scenes that especially come to mind are the scenes in which the city of Paris folds upon itself and when a badass Joseph Gordon Levitt has a zero gravity fight in a hotel corridor. Inception really makes good use of its setting in the mind and takes liberties of the bending of logical science and over the top action, Nolan really shows what a wild imagination and a heccers budget can really do. Drake has really used his new 'baller' status to rope in the best producers and featurings that one could think of. Here you have the likes of Kanye, Jay Z, Jeezy, Alicia Keys, T.I. The Dream etc etc. This seems like a double edged sword because at once we have an extremely over the top colorful album, but on the other hand we have an album that can't quite keep up with quality control. Consequential the album varies really depending on how much you like the featuring artist as Drake is solid throughout. With the Unicorn game i don't know what happened from the flash games from my past to now but they have some how triple folded. The Unicorn game has some of the best animations I've seen in flash. Also with the assist of the almost too catchy Erasure Hit "Always" this game is like crack. When you play you'll constantly come back for the song, but then eventually sucked into trying to overcome an unbeatable game.

Alright I'm not not gonna lie, what I'm about to say next is a pretty big call but here goes nothing. Okay this might sound a little deep but I'm a deep guy so its all good, at the heart of all three of these things is a real simplicity. In terms of Inception it seems to be shrouded in complexity, abstract concepts and inconceivable action scenes. But at its core what we really have is the classic story of the jaded hero, a man guilt stricken over the death of his wife and his longing to go home. This is a story that has been told a hundred times and will probably be told another thousand, but its one that really appeals to people's fascination with tragedy. This might seem like I'm taking something away from Inception but its is actually quite the feat, to make this type of story fresh and familiar at the same time takes skills...so to Nolan kudos my friend (yea we're friends, JYEAHH). Drake's album is one that is one in which you can probably have a D&M to, go to the strip club and then get some nookie, and really isn't that what everyone wants? It might seem drake is heaps 'deeper' than any other rapper but his not, he just seems to wear his heart on his sleeve openly and rap shit that 5 years ago would've labeled him a bitch (or BIATCH), and really is there anything simpler than saying whats on your mind? (i do also realize how complex this can be but this is my review and i can say whatever the fugg i want). Unicorn game... If you looked up the definition of simple is the dictionary this game would be there staring you in the face, and then Erasure would appear on a unicorn and grab you by the hand, from there he would lead you on mystical journey in which you'd collect fairies and dash through stars forever!
