Despite popular belief we here at Comehitthis are actually sophisticated patrons of only the finest arts of the most diverse cultures( gettin my old charles steez on). And even though our interests include 'greening it' and 'eye rolling' ( and for those who don't know its not the the eye rolling of sarcasm, if you sees what I'm sezzi'n offt). We're actually quite cultural probably from all the travel channel we watch, so with that being said, when given the chance to go we couldnt say no to SANKALANA 09'.
Alright straight up we were hyping this thing up for like months before hand, coming up with nearly every hypothetical that we could think of, rocking up fugged up, cozzie peaking during, and even constant comparisons that it would turn into 'Up In Smoke 09'. And so we left that night wondering what it would be like. I'm not gonna lie i was not that keen on this thing, for one thing i didn't personally know anyone there to support, and I've never been really interested in Sri Lankan culture at all. So i was hoping we'd get a little lost on the way....
we didn't
i was hoping we wouldn't see people we knew....
we did
i thought it was goin to be absolutely horrible and unbearable....
actually it wasn't
Truthfully it was actually alright, though we were fazing out a bit it was pretty interesting. The dancing was pretty nice and different from what you'd ever usually see. Big ups to these drum guys who like did these solo things for like 10 minutes straight. There was around 15 performances, sometimes you'd think they were gonna end and then suddenly it would continue for like another 30 minutes, that was pretty painful. And at the end they played the Sri Lankan national anthem, and after the Australian one... at that point every one was cbf. So yea i was wrong it was pretty good.
basically our point of view
Indy chillin with his homeboy Dylan from Deloitte.
Crez chillin with Asanga outside. Asanga is a beast at ball and a wizard of poetry
BIG UPS to RASHMIN and JANANI, they were the whole reason we went. And even though we were all the way up the back we could still see them dancing pretty hectically, it was comparable to like the lion king ( on ice, DAYUMM). Yea so they did great and if you see Rashmin at UNSW holla at him, and if you see Janani at COFA maybe do something a little less harsh then holla at her, like a polite hello maybe.
And afterward we went to Mickey D's, ate some delicious ice cream, ice coffee, and nuggets. BIG ups to the Lane Cove maccas, if your ever there late at night the demographic of people are either fobby students, keen people from the hotels opposite, or just like fried people from the offices or just from the Ryde area in general. The perfect Utopian society? Aldous Huxley would agree ( shout out to New Charles there! Doran Grae, PACHANGA!)
And until like 3 in the morning we chilled with Rushman at our house, talking everything from high school, to Religion, and even RNB specifically kc and jo jo and some whole jodeci controversy. BIG UPs to DMX........
And so Sankalana 09' ended pretty nicely, a good cultural experience for Comehithis, i swear the things we do for this blog.... COMEHITTHIS!!
